Housing for UCSB EAP Students

Tropicana Del Norte is a private residence hall for UCSB students, located adjacent to the main UCSB campus, close to the beach and the student neighborhood of Isla Vista (IV). After class, take a walk to the beach, only 6 blocks away. Meet friends for coffee in IV. Or stay home at Tropicana Del Norte and enjoy our many amenities. Relax by our heated pool, play a game of ping-pong in the rec room or work out in the Fitness Center. Take a short bus ride to go shopping in Goleta or sightseeing in Santa Barbara.

At Tropicana Del Norte, you will live in a community of UCSB and other International students. Meet people in Tropicana’s onsite cafe and perfect your English skills. Our community has student Resident Assistants who put on dozens of social and recreational events each quarter. While participating in activities ranging from hiking to canvas painting, you’ll get to know many more of the UCSB students living in Tropicana Del Norte residence hall than in a traditional Santa Barbara apartment setting.

What’s Included

Tropicana Del Norte’s 3-bedroom/2-bath suites, come completely furnished. All you need to bring is bedding, towels, your clothes, toiletries and personal care items. Choose from single occupancy bedrooms, doubles, triples or quads. You can choose to live with American students or other international students.

Our onsite café provides you with all your meals so you won’t have to worry about grocery shopping, cooking or cleaning a kitchen! The food is freshly prepared, never frozen or canned. There are always vegetarian options and rice at every meal. You may eat at the restaurant as often as you wish, and have as many second helpings as you like.

Unlike an apartment, you won’t need to open up your own accounts with the electric company, the cable company, an internet provider, trash service, and the water company. Your all-inclusive payments cover it all: rent, unlimited meals and utilities, even WiFi. We lease by the bed so you are only responsible for your own rent. You need not worry about your roommates paying their share of the rent.

International Student Bike Loan Program

For your convenience, Tropicana Del Norte is happy to loan you a used bike to help you get around (while supplies last). All we ask is that the bike be returned at your departure and that you provide your own bike lock.

Flexible Lease Contracts

As an EAP student, you may sign for only one quarter to the entire academic year. If you choose not to explore America or visit home you may stay in your suite at no additional charge for Thanksgiving, Winter & Spring holidays, when American residence halls traditionally close. The cafe is closed over academic breaks.

Apartment Living Option

Villas at Tropicana is our upperclassmen apartment complex. If you prefer more independent living and wish to cook for yourself, Villas at Tropicana's 2-bedroom / 2-bath furnished apartments offer 10 and 12-month lease options. If you already have a group you wish to live with, rent a whole apartment.  Traveling alone? Our by-the-bed leases provide roommate matching.
