How to Apply for UCSB Financial Aid for Living at Tropicana Del Norte

Step One: Fill out the FAFSA application (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online.

Step Two: Be sure to use UCSB’s school code (#001320) as one of the recipient schools.

Step Three: Be sure to check the box indicating that you are going to be living ON CAMPUS at UCSB. This is very important because we are a residence hall and offer a meal plan. When UCSB creates your Financial Aid package, they will know that you will need the same dollar amount as living in a campus residence hall.

Step Four: Go to My Trop Account and fill out the online Tropicana Del Norte Application and Contract. You do not have to worry about filling out any of the UCSB housing applications. Tropicana Del Norte is a privately owned residence hall and has its own contract. The UCSB housing website will not have our information.

UCSB will send you your official financial aid package in late May, and once you accept the amount you want, all that’s left to do is wait for school to start! All of your government loans and scholarships will be sent to UCSB, who will issue you a check for any amount left over once they have taken out tuition and any other fees. With that refund check, you may then pay Tropicana.

Do not worry if Financial Aid accidentally lists you as living off-campus. This will decrease the amount of money they budget for you. To increase your financial aid to cover your all-inclusive Tropicana Del Norte contract, simply contact the UCSB Financial Aid Office (805-893-2432) and explain that you are living at Tropicana Del Norte, which is a residence hall. They will re-file your paperwork and award you enough money to cover the costs of living in a residence hall.

If you would like to see what a typical budget for going to UCSB and living at Tropicana Del Norte looks like, please visit the UCSB Financial Aid website. The budgets you will want to look at will be the Undergraduate, California Resident, Tropicana Del Norte or the Undergraduate, Non-California Resident, Tropicana Del Norte. These budgets will show you the types of fees and costs to be expected for a year of university life.
