Your RAs
Your Resident Assistants (RAs) are UCSB students who are trained for over eight weeks to assist you with many of your day-to-day needs and college survival skills. RAs wear a lot of hats. They are a “been-there, done-that” source of information about UCSB and the community. They are our community’s “cruise directors,” planning social, recreational and educational events. They also help keep the peace, so you have a study-friendly atmosphere.
Anthony Fernandez, 2nd Floor RA
Anthony is in his fourth year at UCSB. He is majoring in Communications with a minor in Exercise and Sport Studies and Management. Anthony loves to do anything creative and active, and loves living in Santa Barbara because of the scenic views and laid back culture of Isla Vista. Random Fact: Anthony is featured on an “Unleash The Loco” banner outside of Harder Stadium.
Charles Maginnis, 3rd Floor RA
Charles is a third year UCSB student. He’s from Los Angeles and loves playing any and all sports! If you don’t find Charles by the pool you may find him surfing the waves in Santa Barbara or playing basketball.
Courtney Brooks, 2nd Floor RA
Courtney is a third year student at UCSB. She is double majoring in Communications and Comparative Literature. Courtney is fluent in English and French. When she graduates from UCSB she hopes to work in a museum. Some of Courtney’s hobbies include doing crafts, cooking, hiking, and scuba diving. If you need a friend to go thrift store shopping or to study French with, Courtney is your girl! Random Fact: Courtney’s favorite zoo animal is the okapi
Jacob Staines, 3rd Floor RA
Jacob is a UCSB Physics major from Sacramento. If you don’t see Jacob around Trop, you may find him in the ocean or the mountains. In his spare time, he slacklines and rock climbs. Random Fact: Jacob doesn’t have a car and he is proud of it!
Jessica Sweeney, Assistant Director & 1st Floor RA
Jessica is senior at UCSB studying Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Zoology. When Jessica gets out of school she would love to become a veterinarian at a zoo. Random Fact: Jessica was born in Louisiana.
Juliette Personius, 3rd Floor RA
Juliette is a third year Biology major at UCSB. One day she wishes to become a pediatric oncologist and live in Haiti. This is her second year as a Resident Assistant for Tropicana Student Housing. Some of her hobbies include playing guitar, and finding vintage or unique jewelry. Random Fact: Juliette wants to fill up the pages of her passport before it expires!
Matt Alsheikh, Assistant Director & 1st Floor RA
Matt is a senior at UCSB and is majoring in Computer Science with an emphasis in Computational Economics. Some of Matt’s hobbies include computer programming, playing video games, and playing volleyball. If you need a good laugh, or maybe want to go to a Paramore concert, give Matt a call! Random Fact: Matt used to sing bass in a barbershop quartet.
Mattias Nordfeldt, International Coordinator
Mattias is a second year at SBCC studying Political Economy. He is from Stockholm, Sweden and some of his hobbies include riding motorcycles, building fish tanks, raising chickens, sky diving, listening to NPR, and playing with his iPad. Random Fact: A part of his tongue is four years younger than the rest of his body.
