First Year Students

Santa Barbara City College is known for its excellent transfer program. Whether you are moving down from San Francisco or flying in from New York, at Tropicana Del Norte Residence Hall you will meet hundreds of other SBCC students on their way to four-year colleges and universities.

Get the full college experience

To most students, life in their first-year dorm is at the heart of the college experience. It’s where friends are made, learning habits are tested and lifelong memories are created. That’s why your first-year housing choice is so important. Tropicana staff is committed to providing you with the ultimate first year experience and we work closely with SBCC campus faculty and staff to make that happen. It’s easy to meet other Santa Barbara City College students and make lasting connections when you live at Tropicana Del Norte. Tropicana Student Organization (TSO) and our Residence Life Team, organize weekly events like bowling, beach barbecues, Disneyland trips, open mic nights & more!

All in one easy package

At Tropicana Del Norte, our goal is to make your first year at college easy! That means you sign an individual lease so you are only responsible for yourself (you don’t have to worry about roommates coming up with their share of the rent). If you don’t have someone to live with, our roommate matching service is great for helping you find compatible suitemates. Or if you have a friend who is also going to SBCC, you can sign up to live with them. Moving in is also painless because our spacious suites are already furnished, and getting comfortable is easy too, with our many resort-style amenities. Our all-inclusive housing package covers your rent, all utilities (including high-speed WiFi), your choice of 7, 10 (included in standard contract), 14, 17 or 19 weekly meal plan at our on-site café and light housekeeping twice a month.

Close to everything you want

Tropicana Del Norte is located in Isla Vista, Santa Barbara’s student community, a leisurely 10-minute walk from the beach. With your SBCC student ID, you can ride the Santa Barbara MTD bus to and from City College, so you don’t need to bring your car. The 15X express bus stops right outside our building every 30 minutes during class hours, and the 24X gets you to downtown Santa Barbara or nearby shopping centers.
